On August 26, 1920, the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified giving American women the right to vote. A consortium of organizations in Tulsa is working to celebrate this momentous occasion throughout 2020. Sharon King Davis, a former AWC Newsmakers Award winner, and one of the organizers of the Tulsa commemorations, will join us for our March meeting, along with Penny Painter and Rebecca Jimerson. The three will portray suffragettes Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony and Ida B. Wells as they tell of the struggle for the women’s right to vote which began and continued 70 years before ratification of the 19th Amendment. Many of the original suffragists did not live to see their efforts succeed. Following the presentation, Davis will discuss the various events and activities happening in concert with the 100th anniversary.
