About Us

The Association for Women in Communications Tulsa

The Association for Women in Communications Tulsa (AWC Tulsa) is the prevailing communications organization for women serving in diverse, but related, communications professions. AWC Tulsa has a longstanding and strong presence in the community. Our members represent a variety of communications disciplines in Tulsa, Oklahoma City and the surrounding areas. Students are an important part of our organization. We offer student members help in building strong academic and professional careers through networking on campus and with nearby professional members.

Communicators today must demonstrate competence in varied disciplines across the broad spectrum of communications fields. Disciplines represented within the association include: print and broadcast journalism, television and radio production, film, advertising, public relations, marketing, editing, graphic design, multimedia design photography and social media management. The list continues to grow as newer media platforms come online.

AWC Tulsa is dedicated to leading progressive change in communication professions through information exchange, leadership, professional development and technology.

Board of Directors

AWC Tulsa Board of Directors

Serving on AWC Tulsa’s Board of Directors is one of the most exciting and valuable leadership opportunities offered by membership. A working board, there are more than 20 leadership positions filled by dedicated members who meet monthly to set the organization’s direction and policies. In addition to helping govern the organization, these board members lead the committees that deal with all areas of the chapter’s activities—from membership to programs to public relations.

Volunteers with a variety of skills and experience are needed. The presidency usually requires a four-year commitment: at least one year in a board position followed by a year each as president-elect, president and past president.

Board members are happy to answer questions about their committees or about AWC. Board positions generally run one fiscal year, July 1- June 30.
