AWC Tulsa Board of Directors

Serving on AWC Tulsa’s Board of Directors is one of the most exciting and valuable leadership opportunities offered by membership. The Tulsa Chapter includes more than 20 leadership positions filled by dedicated members who meet monthly to set the chapter’s direction and policies. In addition to helping govern the organization, these board members lead the committees that deal with all areas of the chapter’s activities--from membership to programs to public relations.

Volunteers with a variety of skills and experience are needed. The presidency usually requires a four-year commitment: at least one year in a board position followed by a year each as president-elect, president and past president.

Board members are happy to answer questions about their committees or about AWC. Board positions generally run one fiscal year, July 1- June 30.

First communications job? A small startup agency in Stillwater -- JRP Media Management
Favorite podcasts? Your Püdcast, Crime Junkie, Christ with Coffee on Ice
Zoom or in-person? Definitely in-person
Early bird or night owl? Early Bird
Favorite campaign or project you've worked on? There are too many to choose just one. Each partnership is a gift!
Coffee, tea or something else? I only ever drink water, tea, or lattes - that trio stays with me!
What would people be surprised to learn about you? I have flown a plane!
Why I serve on the AWC board? I love building meaningful connections and stewarding relationships. Being on the board allows me to pour into fellow professionals while continuing to grow alongside them.

First communications job?
My first communications job was at the Tulsa Zoo, where I helped plan special events, raise funds, and market those events to Zoo members and the public. It was also where I got my first taste of doing live television interviews on location. Let's just say no one really prepares you for that, and my college communications courses definitely didn't either! Ha, ha!

Favorite podcasts? My favorite podcasts right now are: Sharing Passion & Purpose by Nancy Moore; and the Candace Cameron Bure podcast.

Zoom or in person? My preference is in person. Nothing replaces genuine conversations and the connections made face-to-face. But, with 3 little kiddos at home, sometimes Zoom is my best option so that I can stay involved and present.

Early bird or night owl? Early bird for sure! I do my best thinking with a cup of coffee before the day gets busy.

Favorite campaign or project you've worked on? One of my favorite projects was coordinating MS Awareness Week, an annual campaign dedicated to raising awareness about multiple sclerosis (MS), supporting those living with MS, and funding research for a cure.

I loved developing activities that brought people together while increasing awareness of MS. Some of my favorites included MS Dinner Night, where supporters gathered at a local restaurant to connect while a portion of the evening's sales benefited the cause, and MS Move It! to the Streets, where we took to the streets of downtown Tulsa and Oklahoma City with signs, live music, and educational materials to engage people during their lunch hour. We also organized activities in communities across Oklahoma to expand awareness and involvement. That experience taught me that the best campaigns do more than raise funds, they create connections, inspire hope, and build a sense of community around a shared purpose.

Coffee, tea or something else? Coffee is my go-to. But I do enjoy a good cup of tea (hot or cold).

What would people be surprised to know about you? I love to sing! Prior to having my children, I was a member of a community choir called Voices of Unity, led by my high school choir director. These days, my performances are mostly reserved for my car, where you'll often find me enthusiastically singing along to Disney movie soundtracks with my kids. Ha, ha!

What do you listen to before a big presentation or event?  "joy." by for KING & COUNTRY

Why I serve on this board? Because I believe in the joy this organization brings to everyone it touches. Whether it's a networking event, a luncheon, or a board meeting, being surrounded by these incredible women always fills my soul.

My AWC friends have become family! They have been there for so many of my life's milestones (from career changes and my marriage to celebrating the births of my children). Serving on the Board is my way of giving back to an organization and a community that has given me so much. I want to help ensure others experience the same encouragement, connection, and lifelong friendships that I have.

Olga Morgan - Treasurer

First communications job? While my background is in accounting and finance, I
first became a student of communication in 2018 when I began working with a
larger executive team with diverse backgrounds. It quickly became obvious that
throwing a bunch of numbers at people wasn';t going to be effective. They needed
context, connections, and a story they could relate to. That's when I realized that
good communication is about building a bridge between meeting people where
they are and helping them see things from your perspective.
Favorite podcasts? Most are finance- and economics-related (Kyla Scanlon’s
shorts are my favorite for quick morning updates), but I also enjoy content
focused on communication, leadership, and human behavior. Radical Candor
has been one of my favorites since I’ve read Kim Scott’s book, and I also enjoy
The Communication Guys. I'll also happily tune in to anything featuring Vanessa
Van Edwards.
Best career advice you;ve received? Integrity and reputation are your most
valuable assets. Once they're lost, they're next to impossible to regain.
Zoom or in-person? Zoom has been my go-to due to my schedule, but I enjoy the
connections that come with in-person meetings and plan to attend more of them.
Early bird or night owl? Night owl, for sure.
Favorite campaign or project you've worked on? It was connected to my ";first
communications job." I worked with a marketing team that came from very
different backgrounds than my own, which challenged me to explain banking
concepts in language and examples that resonated with them. That experience
taught me the importance of building a bridge between perspectives and sparked
my interest in communication.
Coffee, tea or something else? All of the above. Coffee in the morning, tea or
matcha in the afternoon, and water throughout the day.
What would people be surprised to learn about you? I'm more adventurous than I
might appear. I'm an Open Water-certified scuba diver, have jumped out of a
perfectly good airplane, and have traveled to more than 40 countries on six
continents, including Antarctica.
Song you play before a big presentation or pitch? Depends on the day, but
anything with big guitar riffs, pounding drums, and lyrics about perseverance. A
little rock-and-roll reminder that giving up isn't my style.
Why I serve on the AWC board? While my career has been focused on finance,
I am passionate about the role that clear, accurate, and effective communication
plays in every aspect of life and business. Serving on the AWC Board gives me
the opportunity to support that mission while contributing my financial expertise to
help ensure the organization's long-term success. It also allows me to learn from
talented communication professionals and continue growing as a communicator
myself.
