Since 1973, AWC Tulsa has recognized Oklahoma’s newsworthy women at its annual Newsmakers Awards Luncheon. Newsmaker honorees have proven themselves to be effective communicators in their professions and have made significant accomplishments and contributions to the advancement of women.

The Saidie Adwon Lifetime Achievement Award is named in honor of the first recipient of the award, Saidie Adwon. She was a trailblazer for women in broadcasting and was named general manager of KTUL in 1980 - the first female to hold that role at a television station in Oklahoma. Saidie Lifetime Achievement Award honorees are recognized for their significant contributions to Oklahoma during her career in the communications field.

Newsmakers not only honors seasoned professionals, but also supports the next generation communicators by presenting scholarships to Oklahoma college students pursuing a degree in a communications field.
